Part of the next generation of goalkeepers vying to carry on the USA’s strong lineage at the position, the Colorado native has represented the USA at every age level since U-14. While still growing into his 6-4 frame, he began carving out his career path by joining the Academy of Norwegian side Molde at age 16.
After becoming the starter for the club by age 20, Horvath stepped up to join top Belgian side Club Brugge in 2017, where he helped the Blauw-Zwart clinch the league title in the 2017-18 season and is now a regular starter. Having made his MNT debut in 2016, Horvath has steadily climbed the goalkeeping depth chart and will be important competitor for the position leading towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
FAMILY IS EVERYTHING
Horvath has said that if he wasn’t an only child, he’s unsure how his footballing career may have evolved, and that’s because when his move to Molde materialized at age 16, his parents – Peter and Deana -- made the journey to Norway with him. The goalkeeper has said they dropped everything, taking leave from their jobs to serve as a support system as he adjusted to life in Scandinavia. What’s more, while he was training and playing in games, they worked cleaning buildings and collecting trash to supplement the family income in support of his dream.
With Ethan now long settled into European life, the Horvath's have moved back stateside and set up shop in Charlotte, North Carolina, in part to make it easier for trips to Europe to see their son. As they put down roots in the Tar Heel State, Ethan bought them a brand-new house as thanks for quite obviously being the best parents on the planet.
STRONG SHOWINGS
Still young for a goalkeeper, Horvath has had to bide his time with the U.S. Men's National Team, but has had two memorable moments in his limited chances thus far. In October 2016, he became the only modern-era MNT play to earn their senior international debut on Cuban soil, making three saves to keep the clean sheet in a 2-0 friendly victory against Leones del Caribe.
In his third appearance for the senior team in November 2018 against Italy, Horvath made five spectacular saves en route to earning Budweiser Man of the Match honors in a 1-0 defeat to the Azzurri.

PERSONAL SIDE
Ethan’s not the first soccer player in his family. His father Peter also played professionally indoors with the Denver Avalanche of the MISL in the early 1980s, while his mother played soccer in high school. When he’s not playing or training, Ethan is likely enjoying time outdoors with his girlfriend along with his dog, an English Cocker Spaniel named Milo.
