Summary

Sport at the Service of Humanity helps soccer organizations to connect with faith organizations, to access critical resources such as pitches, facilities, transport, coaches and referees, all for free, with the objective of removing barriers for kids and families who can’t always afford to pay to play. This short video shares the fundamental insights behind the program. It’s a brilliant starting point for leaders in grassroots soccer who haven’t considered this approach to resources before.

HOW AND WHEN IT CAN HELP

  • For soccer organizations looking to access critical resources such as pitches, facilities and transport.
  • When trying to expand your pool of volunteer coaches and administrators and mentors.
  • For faith organizations looking to support their local community.
  • As a platform to increase cross-community understanding and collaboration.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT THIS RESOURCE

This 4-minute watch opens up a whole new way of working for community-based soccer organizations who might not have considered working with the faith community before. It’s inspiring and practical. And it’s a relatively underutilized approach that can help remove the financial barriers that we know prevent many from playing the beautiful game.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING THIS RESOURCE

  • Sport at the Service of Humanity works with all faith communities.
  • Do you have relationships with different faith communities in your area, and if not, can you reach them through the families of your players?
  • What are the resources that you currently pay for that feed directly into the costs that you charge to players?
  • Faith communities are very diverse and you may not know what assets they can offer you. Go into conversations with faith communities with an open mind about what they might be able to provide.
