HOW AND WHEN IT CAN HELP
- Setting up programming in a community where your organization is new.
- Developing an outreach strategy to increase participation of underrepresented groups.
- Reducing no-shows and drop-outs.
- Creating a detailed role description for an outreach worker within your team.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT THIS RESOURCE
It combines high level principles that can be applied in any community, with very practical examples of how those principles can be implemented in the day to day running of an organization on the ground.
KEY CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING THIS RESOURCE
- Are the communities you’re working with represented on your team, and if not, how can you practically but meaningfully ensure you have insight into their lived experience?
- Warriors highlight how important it is to think about relationships, not just communications. Do you have people on your team who are confident and empathetic relationship builders? Are they working in roles where they can establish those essential human connections and build the trust you need in communities?
- While you’re doing outreach work, if you have a Safeguarding concern, please visit the USSF Safeguarding Hub for additional information about how to make a report. If you or someone you know is at an immediate risk, please contact your local emergency services.
ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTOR
703 Warriors is a volunteer-powered, community-rooted youth soccer development club based in Arlington, VA. They break down barriers and create pathways for kids who have been historically excluded from traditional pay-to-play systems.
Launched in 2023, the Warriors serve players ages 7-11, providing free, high-quality training three days a week that blends technical skill-building, structured fitness, and mentorship. Despite operating outside the traditional club model, Warriors consistently compete against elite travel teams in top tournaments, proving that grit, culture, and community can rival money and prestige. Their holistic approach goes beyond the game as kids develop confidence, leadership, and life skills in an environment where every child has a chance to grow, regardless of background or income.
703 Warriors is shaping a new playbook for American youth soccer built on access, excellence, and equity. They’re looking for like-minded partners, clubs, and organizations to replicae that model across area codes. If that’s you, contact 703warriors@gmail.com.
