Third Qualifying Round Set for Weekend of Nov. 23-24

Third Qualifying Round Set for Weekend of Nov. 23-24

CHICAGO (Oct. 22, 2018) - The Draw for the third round of Open Division Local Qualifying was conducted yesterday, Oct. 21 and will pit 24 aspiring amateur clubs against one another on the road to the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer's National Championship.

U.S. Soccer held the draw to determine the matchups and hosts at Soccer House in Chicago.

All 12 games in the third qualifying round will be played Nov. 23-24 in venues across the country. The exact pairing for one Central Region matchup will be determined after Soda City Sorinex FC (S.C.) and Georgia Revolution FC Reserves (Ga.) face each other in a second qualifying round game, rescheduled to Nov. 2 at Saluda Shoals Soccer Park in Columbia, S.C. due to inclement weather last weekend in central South Carolina. The winner will host Nashville United (Tenn.).

Four of the clubs still alive reached the tournament's First Round in 2019. They include Cal FC (Calif.), NTX Rayados (Texas), Virginia United (Va.) and West Chester United (Pa.). Other notable survivors include 2017 Cinderella side Christos FC (Md.) and three-time U.S. Open Cup champion New York Pancyprian Freedoms (1980, 1982-83).

If a fourth qualifying round is necessary, it will be held Dec. 21-22. The local qualifying survivors will be joined in the tournament's First Round by Newtown Pride FC (Newtown, Conn.), the 2019 U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) National Amateur Cup champion, as well as a number of clubs to be determined from the National Premier Soccer League and USL League Two, both nationwide amateur leagues that elected the National Leagues track for qualifying their teams for the 2020 Open Cup.
