USMNT to Face Honduras in CNL Semifinal on June 4 at Houston’s BBVA Stadium

The U.S. Men’s National Team’s 2020 schedule became clearer on Monday as Concacaf announced the sites and dates for the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Finals.

Already set to face Honduras for the first time since 2017 in the semifinals, Gregg Berhalter’s side now knows it will face Los Catrachos on Thursday, June 4 at BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas at 7:30 p.m. ET.

That match will precede the second semifinal between Mexico and Costa Rica, to be played at Houston’s NRG Stadium later that night with kickoff set for 10 p.m. ET.

The competition will then shift to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, June 7, with the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys hosting both the Third-Place Match (5:30 p.m. ET), followed by the inaugural Concacaf Nations League Final (8 p.m. ET).

Tickets for all matches will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. ET. Fans can sign up for an exclusive pre-sale opportunity at ConcacafNationsLeague.com.

The 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League kicked off last September and ran through the November international window. The USA, Costa Rica, Honduras and Mexico advanced to June’s final round by virtue of finishing on top of their respective League A groups.

The United States defeated Cuba 7-0 on Oct. 11 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., before falling 2-0 to Canada on four days later at BMO Field in Toronto. The USMNT rebounded the following month, defeating Canada 4-1 on Nov. 15 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando and confirmed its spot atop the group with a 4-0 victory against Cuba on Nov. 19 in George Town, Cayman Islands.

Teams were ranked to determine the semifinal matchups, with the highest ranked team playing the lowest ranked team.

The final standings are as follows:

1.     Mexico (12 pts, +10)

2.     Honduras (10 pts, +7)

3.     USA (9 pts, +12)

4.     Costa Rica (6 pts, +1)

Following June’s Concacaf Nations League matches, the USMNT will shift its focus to the final round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying. The final six teams which will compete in “the Hex” will be determined via the June FIFA World Ranking, with the draw for the schedule to be held later this summer.

The USMNT will play six of its 10 final round World Cup Qualifiers during the September, October and November FIFA international windows this fall.
