The Barclays FA Women’s Super League had an American flair as league play resumed this weekend, with U.S. Women’s National Team regulars Tobin Heath, Christen Press, Samantha Mewis and Rose Lavelle featuring for their respective clubs.

Heath and Press made their long-awaited debuts for Manchester United, helping the Red Devils to a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. Both subbed on midway through the second half, with Heath entering the game in the 70th minute and Press coming on in the 77th. Heath provided the assist on United’s final goal of the game in the 90th minute, picking out Jane Ross for a header at the far post.

Press had a dangerous opportunity of her own just moments before, but her shot rattled off the post.

Across town, Mewis continued her scoring streak with Manchester City, tallying her second goal in as many appearances as the Cityzens topped Tottenham Hotspur, 4-1.

Mewis, who scored the game-winning goal in Manchester City’s FA Cup Semifinal win over Arsenal on Thursday, started yet again in City’s midfield and scored her first WSL goal in the 53rd minute, finishing off a give-and-go with Canadian international Janine Beckie.
