USMNT Rewind: Brenden Aaronson shows off skills in first outing with Red Bull Salzburg

By: Michael Lewis

In his first performance with Red Bull Salzburg, Brenden Aaronson scored in a 6-0 friendly win against second-division side Vorwaerts Steyr. The former Philadelphia Union standout took a feed from the left before striking from the midfield of the penalty area in the 52nd minute. Salzburg resumes Austrian Bundesliga play at Rheindorf Altach on Jan. 24.

In England, the agony of Antonee Robinson and his Fulham teammates experienced turned into ecstasy for Christian Pulisic and his Chelsea mates on Saturday.

The Blue took advantage of Robinson's red card late in the first half and went on to register a 1-0 win at Craven Cottage in the English Premier League.

Robinson was banished from the match in the 44th minute after his hard tackle on César Azpilicueta.

Up until then, Robinson was playing very well, particularly on the attack as he overlapped several times on the left flank while trying to set up teammates. Robinson will miss Fulham's EPL match against Manchester United on Wednesday.

Despite playing with 10 men the rest of the way, Fulham held strong until Mason Mount tallied in the 78th minute.

Pulisic did not figure in the scoring, but two of his passes gave teammates solid scoring chances in stoppage time, with Azpilicueta and Timo Werner unable to convert their chances.

In other action this weekend:

* Sergiño Dest's hopes of winning his first club medal fell short in the Spanish Super Cup final as Barcelona fell to Athletic Bilbao in extratime, 3-2. Dest was replaced at halftime by Oscar Mingueza.

* Matthew Hoppe, who became the first American to register a Bundesliga hat-trick last week, found the net in the 29th minute for Schalke in its 3-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. The 19-year-old striker latched onto a Benjamin Stambouli feed, penetrated deep into the right side of the penalty area before nutmegging goalkeeper Kevin Trapp only a minute after the hosts scored the first goal.

* After missing a mid-week match due to injury, Weston McKennie returned to action off the bench in Juventus' 2-0 loss at Inter Milan in Italy's Serie A. McKennie, who replaced Adrien Rabiot as part of a triple substitution in the 58th minute, came on with Juve facing a two-goal disadvantage. He played well but could not spark his teammates enough to stage a comeback.

* Alfredo Morales set up the first goal of Fortuna Düsseldorf's 3-0 win at Erzgebirge Aue in the German Second Bundesliga. He assisted on Dawid Kownacki's 24th-minute score.

* Midfielder Gio Reyna sat out Borussia Dortmund's 1-1 home draw with Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
