CHICAGO (May 7, 2023) – U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team head coach Marcia Tafarel has selected 13 players to take part in the team’s third and final invitation-only Identification Training Camp from May 16-19 at COPA Soccer Training Center in Walnut Creek, Calif.

As part of U.S. Soccer’s strategic pillar to develop winning teams, and continuing in the mission for the team to play its first matches in 2024, Tafarel has invited 13 Select ID players, along with 10 Invitation ID players to take part in the final phase of the talent identification process before the first full Women’s Futsal National Team training camp this July in Atlanta.

“Just over a year after beginning the talent identification process for the U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team, I’m thrilled to finish right where we started last March at COPA Soccer Training Center,” said Tafarel. “This camp will be an important final step in establishing the group of players that will form the first U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team later this year.”

As part of the Federation’s strategy to encourage, enable and celebrate the game in all of its forms, U.S. Soccer announced plans to organize the Futsal WNT at its 2022 Annual General Meeting. In December 2022, FIFA announced it had approved the addition of a FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup to its slate of international competitions with the first edition set to take place in 2025. UEFA has staged a European Women’s Futsal Championship since 2019.
