Midfielder Johnny Cardoso Departs USMNT Training Camp
Cardoso Will Not be Replaced; MNT Will Have 26-Player Roster Heading into USA-Portugal on March 31 in Atlanta

ATLANTA (March 30, 2026) – USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso will depart training camp this evening and return to his club, Atletico Madrid. The roster now stands at 26 players in preparation for the match against Portugal on March 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The match will kick off at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on TNT, TruTV, HBO Max, Universo, and Peacock.
“The plan was for Johnny to play for 45 minutes [against Belgium], but when he finished the 45 minutes, he felt some discomfort in a part of his leg, so we decided not to force it and send him back to Madrid,” Pochettino said. “The good thing is he’s not playing at the weekend due to a yellow card ban, which will allow him time to recover as soon as possible.”
Fans will be able to follow the match via Twitter @USMNT, Instagram @USMNT, Facebook and The Official U.S. Soccer App.
