FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (August 1, 2026) - The U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team scored five first half goals to power past Mexico, 7-0, and sweep at two-game series at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center.
After beating Mexico 3-0 on July 29, the U.S. U-16s completed a 10-0 aggregate score over the two matches as forwards Dylan Ohm and Elan Orrico scored twice each, with both braces coming in the first half, while midfielder Hannah Yu, midfielder Kiyomi Yowshimura and forward Kayleigh Cabigon scored once each.
This group of players is training to qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This match was the 11th international game of the year for U.S. U-16 GNT, which has now compiled a record of 7W-2L-2D this year in games against European powers Germany, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, England, Netherlands and Sweden and Concacaf rival Mexico.
The first U.S. goal came in just the third minute. Mexico was trying to build out of the back and played a square ball across the midfield. Ohm intercepted the ball and drove toward the left corner of the six-yard box, beating her defender with a nice dribbling move before striking the ball to the lower right corner, off the post and in.
Just six minutes later, Ohm played provider with the first of her three assists on the afternoon. She received the ball on the left wing, beat her defender, and drove into the penalty box. She then laid the ball off towards the penalty spot for Orrico, who took one touch and then smashed her shot past Mexico goalkeeper Hilen Gallegos.
The third goal came off a penalty kick after Ohm was fouled in the box. She stepped up to take it herself and buried it to make it 3-0 after just 13 minutes. The two goals were the first for Ohm at the U-16 international level.
Three minutes later, Ohm was at it again. She received the ball outside the penalty area and drove toward the end line before cutting a pass back to the penalty spot. Yu received the ball, cut it to her left foot to beat Gallegosand then buried the ball into the right side of the goal for her first international goal at the U-16 level.
The USA added a fifth in the 35th minute and once again it came from the USA’s defensive pressure. Mexico was swinging the ball along the back line before Orrico capitalized on a poor ball to the center back, pouncing on the ball before rolling her shot into the net from the top of the 18-yard box to make it 5-0, which was the halftime score. The goals were Orrico’s first at the U-16 international level.
Just five minutes into the second half, Ohm picked up her third assist to complete a rare two-goal, three-assist performance. She received the ball on the left wing, dribbled centrally to the corner of the 18-yard box while beating a defender. She then played a square ball across the box towards the penalty spot for a wide-open Yoshimura, who took one touch before shooting the ball low and hard into the net for her first international goal at the U-16 level.
The final goal came in the 74th minute as the USA launched a counterattack. Midfielder Valentina Perrotta committed a defender to her, freeing up space for Cabigon on the right side. Perrotta then slipped the ball through into the path of Cabigon, who took one touch before striking her shot from outside the box into the upper right side of the net. It was Cabigon’s team-leading seventh goal of 2026 and it came in just her 10th U-16 WNT cap.
The camp and matches are part of the Federation’s continued focus on the U.S. Way philosophy, which emphasizes increased programming for Youth National Teams to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the pathway to the senior National Team with the goal of representing their country at a world championship.
