HOW AND WHEN IT CAN HELP

  • Building an organization’s understanding of how federal funding works.
  • Deciding if federal grants are a viable fundraising strategy for your organization.
  • Mapping the federal agencies that provide funding for new field development or to improve existing facilities.
  • Developing a federal fundraising strategy.
  • Developing targeted advocacy plans to support new field development.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT THIS RESOURCE

It’s not always straightforward to navigate federal grants, especially for organizations who don’t have experience of federal fundraising and advocacy. These resources give any organization a starting point on federal funding and help to level the field in terms of who feels confident fundraising in this area.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING THIS RESOURCE

  • Securing federal funding is a specialist skillset. Do you have the right skills on your team? Who in your network can you reach out to for advice and support?
  • Developing infrastructure tends to involve multiple partners. Do any of your partners have the experience to lead on federal fundraising, and if not, is there space in your consortia to include a partner who can bring this expertise?
  • Federal grants can be a long game and tend to require some non-federal match funds. Do you have a range of other funding opportunities in play?
