The theme of tonight’s matchups (ESPN+ starting at 7:30 p.m. ET) will be teams entering unprecedented territory as five clubs will be playing in their first-ever Open Cup Quarterfinal (Atlanta United FC, Minnesota United FC, New Mexico United, New York City FC, and Saint Louis FC). Along with Orlando City SC, the three winners among these six sides will be moving on to their first-ever Semifinal. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Football Club and Portland Timbers will battle it out in the evening’s final contest (ESPN+ at 10:30 p.m. ET) to be the sole team remaining with any previous Semifinal experience. In all cases, two squads who have never been to the Open Cup Final will be facing each other for U.S. Soccer’s National Championship, the first time this has happened since 2001.
