ATLANTA (Jan. 12, 2026) – On July 2 in the nation’s capital, a relatively inexperienced U.S. Women's National Team dominated FIFA’s No. 8-ranked Canada at a sold-out Allstate Continental Clásico. The USWNT’s entertaining and dynamic performance to earn the 3-0 victory over Canada has been voted as the U.S. Soccer Game of the Year, presented by Michelob Ultra.
First half goals from defensive midfielder Sam Coffey, her third of the year and fourth all-time, and midfielder Claire Hutton, the first of her international career in just her sixth cap, led the Americans to their 54th all-time win over Canada in 67 matches. A late goal from Yazmeen Ryan in the 89th minute sealed the victory for the United States.
Both Avery Patterson and Tara McKeown (now Rudd) recorded their second career assists, and Yazmeen Ryan’s goal was her second in as many matches.
The high-energy match, played in front of more than 19,000 fans on Independence Day weekend, featured a raucous and patriotic environment, as well as a comprehensive performance on both sides of the ball against the USA’s long-time regional rival.
Outshooting Canada 22-7, the U.S. maintained control through most of the match with goalkeeper Claudia Dickey, playing in just her second cap, stepping up to deny the the few Canadian opportunities. Dickey finished the night with three saves and her second straight clean sheet as a starter. Canada struggled to contain the United States all night as the young Americans showed flashes of creativity all over the field.
The USA played the match with a roster that did not include almost all of its European-based players, with defender and U.S. captain for the match, Naomia Girma, being the exception.
