EPISODE 13: Tim Howard

In this week’s episode of The U.S. Soccer Podcast, Jordan Angeli and Charlie Davies welcome legendary U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard to the show.

Currently in the running for the title of “Most Interesting Man in Soccer”, Howard briefly retired last year and moved into management as part owner and Sporting Director for USL Championship side Memphis 901 FC. His time away from the field didn’t last long however, and Howard has also taken on a familiar role as the club’s starting goalkeeper this season. Howard discusses how he balances all three jobs and tells how he’s looking for the club to make on impact on the lives of the youth in Memphis:

Howard recalls his high-profile move to Manchester United, the experience he gained while playing at Old Trafford, and how he ultimately found a home during his 10-year stay with Everton FC.

The USMNT legend looks back on his incredible 16-year international career, recalling the highs of the 2009 Confederations Cups and 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, meeting three different U.S. Presidents and becoming the “Secretary of Defense”.  He also reflects on how he dealt with the USMNT’s devastating 2-1 loss at Trinidad & Tobago on Oct. 10, 2017 and missing out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
