Schedule Confirmed for 2027 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Second Qualifying Round
Sixty-Three matches to be held across the country as clubs continue quest to earn a spot in the 112th edition of U.S. Soccer's national club championship
ATLANTA – U.S. Soccer today announced the draw and schedule for the Second Qualifying Round of the 2027 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. There will be 63* matches held Oct. 3-4 between amateur clubs from the Open Division across the country as the field of teams vying for a spot in next year's U.S. Open Cup narrows.
The U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer's national club championship, is entering its 112th edition and is the only U.S. team sport competition in which amateurs have the chance to compete directly against professionals. A record 155 amateur clubs entered the Qualifying Rounds this year, competing for 16 available slots in the Tournament Proper, which kicks off next spring.
With the goal of minimizing overall total travel distance, matchups and byes for the Qualifying Rounds were determined by a combination of geographical considerations and random selection. Host teams are determined by random selection.
The Qualifying Rounds will continue Oct. 31-Nov. 1, which will determine the 32 clubs that will advance to the Final Qualifying Round, scheduled for Nov. 21-22. The Final Qualifying Round will determine the 16 teams that earn a spot in the Tournament Proper, where they will face off against professional clubs in April 2027.
*The 64th match scheduled for this round will not be held as West Virginia United withdrew from the competition, resulting in Columbus Astray advancing to the Third Qualifying Round by forfeit.

The Second Qualifying Round welcomes a pair of former Open Cup juggernauts: the four-time champion New York Greek American SC (1967, 1968, 1969, 1974) and three-time winners NY Pancyprian Freedoms (1980, 1982, 1983). The Greeks are seeking a first Tournament Proper appearance since 2015 as they take on the former professional side now representing the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, New Amsterdam FC. The Pancyprian-Freedoms are chasing their second Tournament Proper appearance in three years and will take on newly promoted UPSL side NY Dash FC.
In the greater Northeast—the cradle of Open Cup history—plenty of intriguing matchups are set for the Second Qualifying Round. Two all-New Jersey fixtures are set for Saturday as UPSL Garden Conference rivals New Jersey Alliance FC and Ironbound SCP clash in Clifton before historic APSL side SC Vistula Garfield faces NPSL side FC Motown in a clash of 2026 Tournament Proper participants.
Historic Philadelphia-based sides Vereinigung Erzgebirge and Philadelphia Soccer Club will meet in Warminster, Pa. First-time Qualifying Round participants PSC will look to stave off a Vereinigung Erzgebirge side that boasts nearly a century of success in the amateur ranks. In another intra-UPSL matchup, Philadelphia Lone Star FC will welcome Pennsylvania Prime FC to town, hoping to replicate its 5-0 victory against Prime FC in May.
In a rematch of The League for Clubs’ Central Region Final, Oklahoma United FC and Tulsa Athletic will face off in Edmond, Okla. Tulsa Athletic will be eager to avenge its 1-0 loss against Oklahoma United over the summer and return to the Open Cup’s Tournament Proper after missing out for the first time in five years.
Further west, Colorado Premier League side FC Denver will face local foe Peak XI FC out of the Mountain Premier League. The Centennial State duo has frequented the Qualifying Rounds in recent years, even facing off a time or two. Notable Qualifying Round clashes between the pair include a 4-3 penalty kick shootout victory for Peak XI in 2022 and a 2-1 win for FC Denver in 2025.
A trio of intriguing Bay Area battles highlights Saturday evening action. The NPSL’s Oakland Stompers will host UPSL side Sonoma Valley United as each side seeks a first Tournament Proper appearance. In a clash of clubs from the century-old San Francisco Soccer Football League and nascent The League for Clubs, International San Francisco and CF San Rafael will meet in San Francisco. Finally, San Ramon FC will look to return to the Tournament Proper for the second consecutive year as it hosts USL League Two’s Academia SC.
